Ben_CoughlinKristy Cowan and Ben Coughlin, 2013-14 Carey Forward Co-Chairpersons

On September 1, 2014, the Carey community came together to cut the ribbon on our fabulous new building. By every measure, the new facility has been a huge success. We opened the new Hall of Feathers multipurpose room that accommodates our entire community for assemblies, Holiday Sing, Common Ground parent education events, as well as indoor lunch and P.E. on rainy days; the brand new early childhood education center for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten located directly across from the lower playground; our four new world languages classrooms; an enlarged and modernized music room; an updated kitchen; and a new administrative suite that welcomes our current families and visitors to campus, allowing our administrators and support personnel to be co-located at the school’s entrance for added efficiency and security.

Our community has also celebrated the fact that this project was finished on time and just under the $8.1 million budget. Benefitting from historically low interest rates, the school secured a $3 million tax-exempt 10-year loan, and established a $5.1 million fundraising target.  As of June 30, 2014, we have raised an unprecedented $4.75 million!! This record-breaking support — which included the school’s first $1 million gift — has come from all sectors of the extended Carey family, including current families, alumni and their parents, faculty, foundations, companies, former board members, grandparents, and friends (see attached list). We are so appreciative of the incredible generosity shown by the donors to this project. We asked, and you answered the call to help secure Carey’s future as an outstanding educational institution while recognizing the generosity of families that came before us.

Finally, we also express deep gratitude to the many volunteers who worked so hard to make Carey Forward a success. Our fundraising efforts were successful due to the strong leadership of our 2012-13 campaign co-chairs, Devon Gold and Sarah Murphy, as well as the rest of the campaign committee.   Every Carey Forward gathering was planned and supported by our hardworking and creative Events Team: Erin Crocker, Kim Bottoms, Lexi Slavet, and Patty Macy. And, of course, Lisa Fowler, Carey’s Advancement Director, pulled all these moving pieces together into one coherent strategy. We extend our sincere thanks to all these volunteers who helped make the board’s vision a reality.
